Dr. Cristinel Coconcea received his MD from the Carol Davila School of Medicine at the University of Bucharest, Romania and completed a PhD in CNS Infections at the University of Frankfurt, Germany. Dr. Coconcea has completed residencies at Alexandria General Hospital in Romania, University Hospitals of Cleveland, and the VA Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio, where he was Clinical Chief Resident in Psychiatry. He is an assistant professor of medicine at the School of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University and is the Medical Director of the Adult Inpatient Unit of the Department of Psychiatry at University Hospitals of Cleveland. Dr. Coconcea teaches resident physicians and medical students and in 2002 he was given the Teaching Excellence Award by the Case Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Coconcea is a member of several professional organizations. His areas of expertise and research interests include: General hospital adult psychiatry with emphasis on psychotic disorders, treatment resistant psychotic disorders, schizophrenia and OCD, psychopharmacology of schizophrenia and psychotic disorders, creativity and mental illness.
