Asbestos Exposure

09/27/2007 11:37AM

Question:

I am an Audio visual repair man. For about 10 years I have been reairing a/v equipment. I have recently become aware that some of the equipment that I have been repairing have asbestos insulated wires. I have been reqularly stripping 5 to 10 of these wires a day in the repair process as well as blowing out the machines with compressed air. Should I be worried about asbestos exposure? Also are there tests I can take to determine if I have had exposure?

Answer:

Thank you for visiting NetWellness. For an answer to your question, I consulted with Dr. Timothy Buckley. Both Dr. Buckley and I feel that you are not at much risk for disease from asbestos exposure. The occupations with the highest risks include miners, construction and building rehabilitation workers, and World War II era shipbuilders.
