08/08/2008 01:24PM

Question:

Hello,

I took my son for a blood test and received a phone call back from the dr saying his eosinophil count was elevated. she said normal was between 15-500 and his was 1862. We have repeated the test again this time also looking at platellet counts as well. I have not received the results of the second test as of yet.

Do you think the 1862 is awfully high. My son is only 8 years old.

thank you

Answer:

Eosinophilia may be associated with many external factors and some internal diseases. Most commonly an allergic cause is involved. Your doctor will explain this further to you and will refer you to a specialist if necessary.
