Hyperthrodism and Pregnancy10/07/2011 |
I have hyperthrodism, and would like to start a family. Can I get pregnant? What are the dangers?
In general, hyperthyroidism does not have a negative effect on getting or staying pregnant, or on the growing fetus. However, some of the medicine used to treat hyperthyroidism is not recommended during pregnancy. Before getting pregnant, you should see your medical endocrinologist and tell him you are attempting to get pregnant. He will check your medications and make sure they are the best ones to take pregnant. He will also let you know if you have other pregnancy risks, such as high blood pressure. If you do, he might recommend that you see a high risk pregnancy specialist (maternal-fetal medicine) prior to getting pregnant.
